As a recently retired Diplomat for the U.S. State Department’s Foreign Service with a career emphasis on management issues, George is well-qualified to take the operational lead with his wife Gladys at Vineyard Hacienda. He is President of Balboa Park’s House of Peru and serves on the Executive Board of House of Pacific Relations, as well as on the Jamul Dulzura Community Planning Group.
A specialist in East Asian regional affairs, he served our country in Japan (three times), South Korea, Hong Kong, Brunei and Paraguay before his completing his overseas diplomatic postings as Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy in Damascus, Syria. His final position before retirement was as the State Department’s Regional Director of Foreign Missions in Southwestern states.
George speaks fluent Japanese and Spanish, passable French and Korean, and basic Cantonese and Arabic. He is also a master swimmer, choral director, singer, and plays several instruments, most notably piano and harmonica.
